It’s really tempting to turn to typical comfort foods during times of stress, but those comfort foods will do just the opposite of helping you fight stress. Heavy, fatty foods will drag you down and leave you feeling tired. The foods below are my top 10 foods to keep you on a healthy journey and will help you beat stress! Remember that during stressful times, real whole foods and exercise are always a quick way to reduce stress. Dark Chocolate: Filled with mood-boosting endorphins. Enjoy as a treat or in my Asparagus: Filled with folic acid which is a mood enhancing nutrient. Low levels of folic acid have been linked to depression. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic and throw on the grill for a stress fighting side dish. Salmon: Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids to help cortisol and adrenaline from spiking during times of stress. Blueberries: Full of antioxidants and Vitamin C to help repair and protect cells that are often compromised during stressful events. Eat a handful as a snack or use in a smoothie. Avocados: Rich in B vitamins which helps fight anxiety. Try it in my Creamy Cado. Almonds: Full of immune boosting Vitamins B2 & E. Eat as a snack or try making your own Almond Milk.
1-Day Stress Busting Meal Plan
I have combined those foods to come up with a day’s worth of meals that will help beat stress and not drag you down like typical comfort foods. Breakfast: Blueberries + Spinach + Almond Milk = Stress Fighting Smoothie Lunch: Detox Salad topped with Avocado Snack: Orange + Handful of Almonds Dinner: Grilled Salmon with a side of Asparagus Treat: Dark Chocolate Fudge Before Bed: If you’re having trouble sleeping due to stress, try a Calcium Supplement (I prefer Shaklee’s Osteomatrix) before bed. Calcium is a natural sleep aid that can help you fall asleep and have a restful sleep. The mineral contains tryptophan, an amino acid the body uses to produce melatonin, a natural hormone that helps induce and maintain sleep.
