Believe it or not, nut butters are very easy to make. Many products on the shelves at the store have added salt, sugars, and preservatives. You can’t be sure what you’re actually getting. But if you buy your own raw nuts and spend a little time and love, you will be excited to know you can make your own nut butters for your family!
You can make a variety of nut butter with a simple method in your high powered blender such as the BlendTec.
In the BlendTec, add 1/4 cup of nuts and 1/4 cup of water. Blend. Add 1 teaspoon of water and blend until you reach the consistency you desire. When you’ve reached it, add in some salt and a natural sweetener to taste.
If you don’t have a BlendTec, you can try the following recipe for Almond Butter. Substitute any nut to this recipe and enjoy!
Brooke’s Almond Butter
- 2 Cups Almonds
- 1 Tablespoons Raw Honey or Coconut Nectar (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoons Himalayan Salt (optional)
Place almonds in food processor. Process for 8-12 minutes. You will need to scrape down the sides in the beginning. If you choose to use the honey and salt, stir in by hand after the butter is made as it will seize the mixture if you try to add it before.
Process the almonds for a total of 12 minutes. The mixture will go from crumbly, to thick, until the oils redistribute and the mixture turns smooth! Be patient with the process.
At 2 minutes the mixture will look like this:
