Speaker 1: Study after study shows the damaging effects sugar has not just on our bodies, but our minds as well. Study after study shows we all consume way too much of it.
Speaker 2: That’s right. We actually do. That’s just one thing that Brooke Thomas, the founder of 360 Your Life, is going to ahead and cover, a new Healthy Lifestyle Guide. Brooke Thomas joins us now with a few better alternatives for sweetening things up.
Speaker 1: Hi, Brooke.
Brooke: That’s right.
Speaker 1: How are you?
Brooke: Hi, great, how are you?
Speaker 1: Great, congratulations on the new healthy living guide.
Brooke: Thank you.
Speaker 1: I know it’s been a lot of work.
Brooke: Yes, long time coming and I’m excited to have it released.
Speaker 1: First off, let’s talk about sugar. That really is the problem?
Brooke: Absolutely, and just to give you an example, this is a pound of white refined sugar. Today, according to the USDA, there is a hundred and fifty to a hundred and eighty pounds of sugar being consumed per individual per year. A hundred and fifty …
Speaker 2: A hundred eighty pounds?
Brooke: Yes, a hundred and fifty to a hundred and eighty of these are being consumed for one person per year.
Speaker 2: Really?
Brooke: Yes, just to put it in perspective, in the early 1900s it was only about seventeen to eighteen pounds.
Speaker 1: Wow.
Brooke: That’s how much. Then, you take where we are in this world today, obesity, inflammatory issues. That’s what this refined sugar is causing, the inflammation. The great news, though, is there is always hope with me. This is what I love to inspire people to do is that we can choose better alternatives that still are delicious. [Crosstalk 00:01:34] I brought …
Speaker 2: That’s what I’m skeptical at. That’s exactly what I’m skeptical at.
Brooke: Until you taste my recipe.
Speaker 2: There you go. Go ahead.
Speaker 1: [What are 00:01:40] some better options?
Brooke: One of my twenty-eight days in the guide, I cover sugar. I cover all the hot topics. Sugar is one of them. I just brought three of my favorite. I cover about eight in my guide. I give you a conversion chart if you’re making something that needs one cup of sugar, I give you a conversion to the natural sugar. I just bought my three favorites. I can go over those.
Honey is the first one. Local honey is best because it helps with allergies. It’s just a high antioxidant. You’re going to use about three-fourths cup of sugar, I’m sorry, honey compared to a cup of sugar. I have this conversion chart, very simple. Everything that I have is very simple.
The next one is coconut palm sugar, which again, your body knows how to absorb it better because it comes from a natural place. It’s just a one-to-one ratio. I bought one cup of sugar. Yes?
Speaker 1: If a recipe calls for a cup of sugar, you can use just one cup …
Brooke: Yes.
Speaker 1: … of this [crosstalk 00:02:23].
Brooke: Absolutely. In my guide, I have this chart to make it very simple. Then, my third one, again, these are just my top three that I like for baking and cooking, is dates. You just use about seven or eight dates. You soak them in water and puree them to make a date paste. Again, have this in my lifestyle guide, very simple. I think you tried a cookie earlier that I made with dates.
Speaker 2: Yes.
Brooke: What do you think?
Speaker 2: You really won me over because I thought for sure that the cookie was going to be bland. It was not [real of 00:03:03] raw sugar. I could not taste the difference at all.
Brooke: Yes, I also have it’s an interactive guide. I also have recipes that you can click on. I just tried to make it as simple as possible because that’s what we need in order to live this healthy lifestyle. Go ahead.
Speaker 1: Simple is important because I think when you say this and it sounds so overwhelming and oh my gosh, I can’t even bother because I don’t know where to start, you just want people to take some simple steps, just a few things.
Brooke: Really, my passion here is over the last couple of years, especially, is supporting companies and products that are really trying to make an impact in the United States on our health crisis that’s going on. I get so excited when I find new products because I’m not just … I don’t just promote one product ever. I have several. I base it on my own experience and then other people.
I just happen to be out. It’s just timely. I was out in California last week. I came across this product. It was the perfect example when I read the story behind the product of what to look for. This is what I go over in my guide, what to look for, the integrity behind a company what that company is all about. This brand, it’s called “Ekatala.”
It was made from a woman, or it is made from a woman that is a master hair stylist. She wanted to create hair products, body products, that were all natural. They’re from food, basically, no chemicals, no silicone, no nothing. A lot of times, when we use those types of products, they don’t perform. My whole thing with food and with products, it’s great if they’re healthy, but they’ve got to perform.
Speaker 1: The have to work because you’re not to sacrifice the hair.
Brooke: Exactly, exactly, yes.
Speaker 1: If you want the Healthy Living Guide, you can get it on Brooke’s website, 360YourLife.com, 360YourLife.com. People could …
Brooke: Yes.
Speaker 1: … just go there [crosstalk 00:04:46]
Brooke: They can go there. It’s ready. I’ve been … It’s ready.
Speaker 1: Oh, very good, good stuff, thank you so much.
Brooke: Thank you.
Speaker 1: Thank you.
